How to Forfeit
Valorant stands out as a highly competitive tactical shooter that demands teamwork, communication, and strategic planning. Despite best efforts, there are moments when continuing a game becomes unproductive, whether due to unbalanced teams, communication breakdowns, or absent players.
Knowing the right way to surrender can help teams make thoughtful decisions and minimize frustration. Understanding when and how to forfeit ensures that players have control over their gaming experience and can adapt to challenging situations efficiently.
Understanding Match Forfeits in Valorant
Forfeiting in Valorant gives a team the option to end a match early if continuing feels pointless. Players often use this feature when the odds are heavily stacked against them or technical issues disrupt fair gameplay. When all teammates agree to forfeit, the match stops, and both teams move forward, saving time and allowing everyone to quickly get into a new game.
Forfeit Eligibility and Timing
A team may only begin the forfeit process after Round 6 has started. Before this point, no forfeit or surrender vote can be initiated.
The rules also limit how many times a team can attempt to forfeit during a match. Each half of the game allows for a single surrender vote, which encourages continued play and limits repeated requests.
- Earliest attempt: After Round 6 begins
- Maximum attempts: One per half
Steps to Surrender in Valorant
To forfeit a match in Valorant, players should open the team chat by pressing Enter. In the chat, they need to type one of these commands: /ff
, /surrender
, or /forfeit
. Once a command is submitted, a surrender vote automatically appears for all team members.
Each player on the team can then respond to the prompt. To agree to surrender, press F5; to reject the vote, press F6. For the surrender vote to pass, every team member must vote in favor—unanimity is required.
Action | Input | Description |
---|---|---|
Open Team Chat | Enter | Activates the chat window |
Start Surrender | /ff, /surrender, /forfeit | Begins the forfeit vote |
Accept | F5 | Vote in support of surrender |
Decline | F6 | Vote against the proposal |
If even a single player does not vote yes, the attempt will not succeed. Surrendering counts the same as a defeat for Matchmaking Rating adjustments.
