Multiversus Agent Smith Update

The recent midseason update for MultiVersus introduces significant additions and improvements to the game, notably unveiling Agent Smith from The Matrix. Players can look forward to acquiring this new character on July 23, 2024, along with experiencing a host of balance adjustments to the existing roster.

This update does not just stop at character additions. New game modes such as Free For All and Spectator Modes are being introduced, alongside map variants and other fresh content. These changes mark another evolution in MultiVersus, enhancing gameplay and offering fans an array of new features to delve into.

MultiVersus Update 1.05 Patch Notes

General

  • New Fighter: Agent Smith joins the Multiverse! Players can unlock him early by completing the „Beat Rifts, Get Agent Smith Free!“ event starting July 8, and he will be available for purchase by July 23.
  • New Modes:
    • Free-For-All: Players can compete against up to 3 others in the new Free-For-All mode. The first player to achieve 4 ringouts wins.
    • Spectator Mode: Custom games now support up to 4 spectators who can cheer on teammates without entering the match.
  • Post-game stats have been reintroduced, showing total ringouts and damage dealt on the results screen for both PvP and PvE matches.
  • Battle Pass Tiers can now be bought using Gleamium.
  • Daily free items are now available for collection in the Store.
  • Fighter Select Portraits for fighters have changed to 2D art renders, while variants keep the 3D renders.
  • Players can now edit Perks in Custom Game mode.
  • An option to turn on/off Outline and Team Colors in PvP and PvE is available in the Settings menu.

Rifts

  • The Megalodog PvE Rift is now available.
  • Future Rifts like „Age of Smith“ and „Triple Threat“ will unlock later in the season.

Rift Updates

  • Rift Cauldrons have been renamed to Rift Star Meters, requiring 72% of stars to complete (down from 80%). Rewards are retroactively available for players who meet this requirement by completing a node.
  • Daily Gem Rewards appear on a Rift of each attunement each day.
  • A new button allows auto-equipping of gems before a match if current gems are mismatched.
  • Buttons for retrying a Rift node and leaving Rift matches in single-player mode have been added.
  • Boss requirements for unlocking Matrix Code variants (Superman, Bugs Bunny, Jake) have been reduced.

Rift Balance Updates

  • Area-Of-Effect attack damage and reflect damage on higher difficulties have been decreased.
  • Armature knockback has been reduced.

Account Systems

  • Badges now display stats on the Account Cosmetics screen.
  • All match progress in account and character mastery, along with leaderboards, now shows in the post-match summary for entire sets instead of just the last match.
  • An issue where incomplete matches displayed as losses on the Career screen has been fixed.

Input Preferences

The reintroduction of popular input preferences aims to help players optimize their combat experience.

  • Customizable input buffer timing.
  • Customizable control stick input deadzones (both left and right sticks).
  • Ability to swap side/neutral attack inputs for ground or air.
  • Toggleable option to use attack inputs for item pickup.
  • Fastfall method input settings (tap down or hold down).
  • Customizable Neutral Dodge input binding.

Combat Changes

  • Fighters now have a 6-frame lockout on neutral dodge actions after hitstun ends, making mid-combo parries more difficult. Directional dodges remain unaffected.
  • Long combo strings now apply a vacuum attack hitstun decay penalty, making previously inescapable infinite combos easier to escape.
  • Fighters that are incapacitated gain a temporary resist buff, reducing the duration of subsequent incapacitate attacks.
  • Side attack combo input buffers have been standardized, allowing easier attack switching during jab combos.

General Bugfixes

  • Fixed a bug where fighters taking fire or shock damage in the same frame as an attack would cause the attack to be ignored.
  • Addressed an issue where fighters could respawn without spawn invulnerability.

General Perks

  • Protective Momentum: Projectile shield now breaks after blocking one normal or heavy projectile.

Maps

  • Court 2 Variant: Added to the game.
  • Cromulons:
    • 2v2 Variant:
      • Main stage and side speakers‘ width increased by 20%.
      • Blast box size increased by 10%.
    • 1v1 Variant:
      • Main stage width increased by 20%.
      • Blast box size increased by 10%.
  • Dexter’s Laboratory 1:
    • Scroll speed reduced.
    • Reverse scroll button cooldown increased to 15 seconds from 1 second.
    • Possible generated layouts updated.
  • Throne Room:
    • 2v2 Variant:
      • Increased upper limit by 300 units.
  • Townsville:
    • Mojo Jojo's attack interval increased.
    • Bombs and laser knockback reduced.
    • Mojo Jojo takes more damage before attacks are interrupted.
  • Tree Fort:
    • Bounce pads should now more reliably bounce fighters and prevent them from fully landing on the platform.

Characters

Arya

  • Ground Dash Attack: Updated knockback to be more consistent near the ledge.
  • Air/Ground Neutral Special: Fixed an issue where Arya would float into space while using face steal.

Banana Guard

  • Air Neutral Attack: On-hit branch window starts 5 frames earlier.
  • Air Side Attack:
    • Damage reduced to 11 from 12.
    • On-whiff branch window delayed by 4 frames.
  • Air/Ground Neutral Special: Strength buff consumed after a successful enemy attack.
  • Ground Down Special: On-hit branch window can be canceled 26 frames earlier.
  • Ground Side Special: On-whiff branch window delayed by 4 frames.

Batman

  • Ground Dash Attack: On-whiff branch window delayed by 8 frames.
  • Air/Ground Neutral Special: Fixed an issue where Bat Bomb could apply to two enemies simultaneously.
  • Air Down Special: Leg hurtbox size increased.

Black Adam

  • Ground Up Attack: Lightning strike projectile now has a 4-second cooldown.
  • Ground Down Attack:
    • Knockback increased to 2300 from 2200.
    • On-hit dodge branch window delayed by 5 frames.
  • Air Up Attack:
    • Final hit base knockback reduced to 1500 from 1750.
    • On-whiff branch window delayed by 5 frames.
  • Air Neutral Attack:
    • Visuals now better match hitbox size.
    • Repeat-move lockout increased to 18 frames from 8 frames.
    • On-hit jump branch window delayed by 4 frames.
    • Attacking a safe will only knock back the safe on the last hit of the attack.

Bugs Bunny

Bugs Bunny's power as a mage is slightly over-tuned, and adjustments aim to make his loops and on-screen safe interactions less dominant.

  • Air Up Attack: Hitbox active duration reduced by 2 frames.
  • Air/Ground Down Attack (Pie): Pie projectile hurtbox size increased to match hitbox size, addressing inconsistent projectile interactions.
